Film Develop and Scan
Combining the benefits of traditionally exposed film with digital convenience. We can scan from 35mm, including Xpan and 120 film formats up to 6x9, to produce various files sizes on CD using the same technology as our photographic print services. Images are individually assessed for colour and density and ICE is used to remove any dust and scratches from colour films.
File sizes fall into three bands: Small - 4.5Mb, Standard - 18Mb and Archive 48Mb+, but these are nominal sizes for when the file is open only. 120 film produces a variety of sizes according to the format of camera used, ranging from 12.2Mb - 17.5Mb at the Standard size; 3 - 4.37Mb at Small size; 48.8 - 158Mb at Archive size. Jpeg format is designed to save disk space including CD, USB or hard drive. When opened in editing software it is the full size (4.5Mb for example), but when closed it occupies a smaller space (300kb-2Mb). The same for 18Mb files, which when stored are around 1-4Mb. We always save to best quality, but the different sizes are inherent to Jpeg format. Tiff format occupies the same space when stored as when open, without the compression used in Jpeg.
Previously developed films can be scanned 'retrospectively' in batch quantities, so x10 120 exposures or x20 35mm exposures are treated as a 'single film'. Order Online
Individual Scans
For professional applications we can scan to produce larger size files tailored to your particular requirement. Film scans from 35mm to 4x5 are prepared to a finished standard, normally at 300dpi, RGB and saved as either JPEG orTIF. The same strict controls are applied to scanning from flat artwork either directly up to A3 size or larger via a film transparency. Both methods are proven by the many times our scans are reproduced commercially with first class results.
